Questions and Answers
What prompted the decision to initiate the
Building Our Future…Together In Faith Capital Campaign?
This decision was initiated as part of a long-range planning process. A Steering Committee was formed under the guidance of Fr. Bill
Rowland, the Parish Building Committee, Parish School Board and our consultant Institute of School and Parish Development (ISPD), to seek
input from the parish community concerning the development of a Master Plan. Given the results of the Needs Assessment in the Spring of
2009 and ongoing refinements based on extensive community input, an integrated Master Plan that unifies the design of all facilities and
requirements for future generations was developed. Through their efforts, the input of many parishioners, and the recommendation of
ISPD the need for a capital campaign was determined. An attainable budget was determined with the help of the Financial Feasibility Study
conducted in September 2009.
What is the status of the St. Patrick Catholic Community Master Plan?
The total cost of our Master Plan, based on construction data estimated in 2011 dollars is $25 million. This Master Plan will be
phased in over time and could be three phases over 10–15 years. Building Our Future…Together In Faith is Phase I, with a Campaign Goal of $7–$8 million.
What projects would be included in Phase I?
The projects that will be included in Phase I are as follows:
• Remodeling the interior of the Church including altar, bathrooms, wall and stained
glass enhancements, with upgraded sound system and technology. New flooring,
rooftop light-emitting cupolas, and a permanent Baptismal Font will be included.
• Acquisition of property to create parking.
• New Education Center used for School/Parish activities and ministries. State-of-the art
facilities for present and future generations to include 18 classrooms (K–8), restrooms
and offices. A lunch area, playground and sports fields will be included.
• The new and remodeled buildings will enhance the aesthetics of the site and the
overall look of the facilities, resulting in the improvement of our ministries.
How many people have been involved in the decision-making process?
Every parishioner was invited to give input through the Listening Sessions, the Parish Assembly and the Mass Presentations.
Additionally, a Parish Survey was completed at each Mass the weekend of September 12–13, 2009 that gave parishioners the
opportunity for further input. Furthermore, ISPD our consultative partners, conducted a Financial Feasibility Study in
September of 2009, interviewing over 100 St. Patrick families. All of this input was considered as the Steering Committee
made their recommendations to the Parish Building Committee.
Based on the input and discovery process,
are parishioners in support of a Capital Campaign?
Yes. Throughout the numerous input vehicles during the last year, parishioners have expressed the overwhelming need to
create a Master Plan. There is a strong sense that the time is right to precede with this Master Plan, and that our
financial leaders will support this Capital Campaign.
What is the role of the Diocese of San Diego in this Campaign?
Diocesan leaders have been kept informed of our plans. We are following the necessary guidelines and procedures required by the Diocese.
In order to obtain a loan from the Diocese, we need to have one-third of the cost of the project on deposit with the Diocese. This
loan needs to be repaid in 25 years or less. Also, the debt service cannot exceed 25 percent of the annual total income of the Parish
(excluding building fund contributions).
Who is being asked to participate in this Capital Campaign?
How much will I be asked to give to a Campaign?
• Everyone who cares about the future of St. Patrick Catholic Community is being asked
to participate. Parishioners, school families, businesses, alumni, and other friends will
be encouraged and invited to contribute.
• We will take a development approach, meaning that we will personally invite and
involve every family to consider a faithful gift. After prayerful consideration, each
person or family will be asked to give a sacrificial gift to the Capital Campaign, in
keeping with our commitment to true Stewardship. No amount is too small and all
gifts are greatly appreciated. The gift of your time as a volunteer is an important
way to further support the effort. We encourage every member of our Catholic
Community to pray for the success of this Campaign.
• All Campaign contribution amounts will remain confidential and donors will be
recognized regardless of the size of their gift. But, any donor can decide to
remain anonymous.
How will I benefit by contributing to the Campaign?
As a member of the St. Patrick family, your contribution to the Capital Campaign will allow you to play a vital role
in assuring that we embody the mission of the Church—the task of evangelizing all people. Your investment in the
future of our Parish and School will ensure the fulfillment of knowing that you have given back to God a grateful
portion from the many gifts that you have received.
What is the financial health of the Parish?
Very healthy. St. Patrick Parish presents a balanced budget each year. Through the strong support of
many families and financially responsible leaders, the financial health of the Parish continues to grow.
A Capital Campaign could further foster that growth.
